Fall, But Make it Colorful

There’s something about the first cool morning that makes us want to add another layer—to our outfits, our beds, and definitely our homes.

But somewhere along the way, decorating for fall became synonymous with taking away the color.

We disagree.

At Nancy Parrish Interiors, color isn’t something we bring out for spring and summer and pack away when September ends. Fall is simply an opportunity to make the colors you already love feel a little richer, warmer, and more layered.

Make Your Color a Little Moodier

You don’t have to trade blue for brown or pink for rust just because the leaves are changing.

Instead, deepen what’s already there. Bright blue feels richer alongside navy, walnut, and aged brass. Green shifts beautifully into moss and olive. Pink can mingle with berry, plum, or burgundy.

The goal isn’t to change your palette. It’s to add another layer.

Cozy Is a Texture, Not a Color

A room doesn’t have to be beige to feel cozy.

Velvet, wool, heavier linens, woven textiles, warm woods, aged brass, and natural stone can completely change the mood of a colorful room.

Swap a lightweight throw for something heavier. Add a velvet pillow. Bring in a woven basket. Layer a deeper pattern with the textiles you already have.

Small changes can make a room feel ready for cooler weather without starting over.

Bring Fall In—Without Making It a Theme

Seasonal decorating can be subtle.

Think branches clipped from outside, dried hydrangeas, magnolia leaves, a bowl of pears, or a beautiful arrangement with deeper, moodier tones.

We love incorporating natural elements that reflect the season without making a room feel overly decorated. The best seasonal touches feel like a natural extension of your home, not a complete transformation.

And as the evenings get darker, turn on the lamps. Warm pools of light make brass glow, wallpaper feel richer, wood tones deepen, and saturated color take on an entirely different mood.

Fall, the NPI Way

For us, fall decorating is about deeper color, richer texture, warmer light, natural elements, and another layer of something unexpected.

Keep the blue. Keep the pink. Keep the pattern.

Add the velvet pillow, clip a branch from the yard, turn on the brass lamp, and pour something good.

Fall has arrived. Color can stay.
